Two Slovenian nationals aged 28 and 29 were arrested in the night of Friday in Styria. The suspects fled from police in a stolen minibus and caused a traffic accident during their flight.
On Thursday, both presented themselves as buyers of the vehicle in Ljubljana. From a 58-year-old seller, also a Slovenian national, they took over the vehicle using a false identity and a forged transaction confirmation, and fled with it in the direction of Austria.
When the seller realised he had become a victim of fraud, he informed the Slovenian police. They passed the information on to the Austrian security authorities, who located the stolen minibus on the motorway A2 between Klagenfurt and Graz.
The Austrian police officers called upon the driver several times to stop the vehicle, but the 29-year-old did not respond to their signals. Near Graz, he left the motorway and continued in the direction of Schwanberg. The flight ended around 22:00 when the vehicle collided with a traffic sign.
Both suspects sustained minor injuries in the accident. The police officers arrested them and filed criminal charges against them. The damaged vehicle was returned to its owner from Ljubljana after the proceedings were concluded.
