Austrian police arrested two Slovenian citizens aged 28 and 29 in Styria overnight on Friday, who fled from police in a stolen minibus and caused a traffic accident in the process.
According to N1, citing the Austrian news agency APA, the suspects posed as potential buyers of a minibus in Ljubljana on Thursday. From a 58-year-old seller, also a Slovenian national, they allegedly took over the vehicle using a false identity and a forged transaction confirmation, then fled towards Austria.
When the seller realised he had become a victim of fraud, he informed the Slovenian police, N1 reports. The latter passed the information to the Austrian security authorities, who located the stolen minibus on motorway A2 between Klagenfurt and Graz.
The Austrian officers repeatedly instructed the driver to stop the vehicle, but the 29-year-old did not respond to their orders. Near Graz, he left the motorway and continued towards Ščavnica. The flight ended around 22:00 when the vehicle struck a traffic sign.
Both suspects sustained minor injuries in the accident. The police officers arrested them and filed criminal charges against both. After concluding the proceedings, they returned the damaged minibus to its owner in Ljubljana.
