Pepper spray used during arrest in Klagenfurt following domestic violence
In the night of Thursday, 25 June, police in Klagenfurt had to use pepper spray to arrest an aggressive 53-year-old man. His partner had previously reported a physical assault by him at a police station.
The 53-year-old woman appeared at the station at around 0.15 and reported that her partner had struck her in the head with a beer mug and twisted her arm. A patrol was then sent to their shared residence to issue a restraining and proximity ban.
Upon arrival, the suspect behaved extremely aggressively according to the police report, insulted the officers and did not comply with their requests. As he did not stop his behaviour, arrest was ordered. During the process, the 53-year-old offered considerable resistance, so the officers had to use pepper spray to carry out the arrest. He was subsequently taken to the police detention centre.
