A pungent sweet smell led police in Strasshof an der Nordbahn to two illegal cannabis operations. Three suspects from Vienna were detained.
Police uncover over 320 cannabis plants in Strasshof – three Vienna residents arrested
An intense smell of marijuana alerted the police in Strasshof an der Nordbahn last Friday evening. Around 6 p.m., a noticeable odour emanated from a residential building in the Gänserndorf district, prompting officers to check the address.
In the basement of the house, officers discovered two people who appeared to be in the process of harvesting a professionally set-up cannabis plantation. A third suspect was apprehended in the neighbourhood shortly afterwards.
However, the investigation uncovered even more. During further enquiries, police officers discovered a second, also illegally operated facility in another house in the same town. There they also found an unregistered firearm.
In total, officers secured more than 320 marijuana plants. The three arrested individuals – a 49-year-old woman and two men (aged 43 and 53), all from Vienna's Favoriten district – refused to make any statement during questioning.
On the instruction of the responsible prosecution authority in Korneuburg, all three suspects were taken to Korneuburg prison.
