A major narcotics network has been broken up in Styria. Investigators from Graz City Police Command had been monitoring the main suspect, a 30-year-old man, since 2022. At that time, a drug ring operating from a luxury apartment in Graz was exposed. The accused then fled to Croatia.
There he met a Bosnian who had also been heavily involved in the Graz network. Together, the two built a new operation. They imported cocaine from South America, concealed in fruit juices and coffee. The goods were smuggled into Austria via Switzerland.
Investigators uncovered that the drugs were sold in Graz, Vienna and Lower Austria. The 30-year-old was eventually arrested in Croatia and is now in custody awaiting trial. The Bosnian was also apprehended. In total, several suspects were arrested during the operation and larger quantities of cocaine as well as cash were seized.
The police named the operation "Haribo". Officers detailed the case at a press conference on Monday.
