Police in the state of Salzburg recorded a large number of breaches of road traffic regulations over the weekend – including extreme speeding, drug driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The state of Salzburg witnessed a series of traffic violations over the past weekend. Officers carrying out checks identified extreme breaches of speed limits, driving under the influence of narcotics, and intoxicated drivers. The incidents were reported by Kronen Zeitung.
The violations on motorways were particularly serious. A 19-year-old man, who had recently obtained a driving licence, was driving on the Tauern motorway at 175 kilometres per hour. The permitted speed there was only 110. On the West motorway, a 22-year-old was caught speeding at 167 km/h, although the speed limit was 100. Both had to surrender their licences immediately.
Three men on motorcycles were also caught. In built-up areas, they reached speeds of between 99 and 106 km/h. One of the three, who holds Hungarian nationality, was also fined by officers. A 36-year-old from Bad Hofgastein drove at nearly twice the permitted speed and had also been drinking – his alcohol level was 0.5 per mille.
Drug testing detected positive results in several people. Doctors confirmed that a 31-year-old from Flachgau and a 25-year-old from the capital were driving under the influence of cannabis.
Other intoxicated drivers were removed from traffic in the urban area. One motorist registered a blood alcohol level of 0.8 per mille. In the case of a vehicle with German registration plates, police removed the plates due to excessive noise pollution. All those involved were reported to the authorities.
