Since Thursday, a fresh trial has been underway at the Salzburg Regional Court against a 41-year-old local man who is already serving a prison sentence for a previous rape conviction. This time, he faces serious sexual offences allegedly committed against his former partner.
According to the prosecution, the accused initially coerced the woman into bringing drunk young women from Hanuschplatz to his home. His alleged aim was to abuse them and force them into street prostitution. When his girlfriend refused, he allegedly abused her himself. Furthermore, he is accused of advertising the woman for sex online and forcing her into prostitution, while keeping the money he obtained from this himself.
Because the man has previous convictions, he faces a particularly severe sentence of up to two decades in prison. An expert appointed by the court found the abuse allegations credible. He assessed the psychological damage to the victim as extremely serious – comparable to the consequences of a chronic illness or serious physical violence. Whether the woman will ever be able to work again is uncertain. The defendant denies all allegations. The length of the sentence has not yet been determined.
