Elderly woman from Tyrol defrauded of thousands of euros in online scam
A 77-year-old resident of Innsbruck fell victim to an internet fraud in June. Unknown perpetrators obtained a sum of money in the low five-figure euro range from the elderly woman.
Between 11 and 18 June, the perpetrators repeatedly made contact with the woman by telephone and kept her engaged in conversations over an extended period. In doing so, they tricked her into disclosing private information and repeatedly transferring money. A purportedly lucrative business with digital currencies served as bait.
The authorities have launched investigations and are searching for the unknown perpetrators. Authorities regularly appeal to the public to be extremely vigilant when receiving unsolicited contact, exaggerated return promises, and requests for disclosure of data or financial means.
