A violent incident between a couple occurred in a flat in Vienna's 15th district on Sunday afternoon. A 29-year-old man from Bulgaria physically attacked his equally aged live-in partner and threatened to kill her.
The woman found a way to contact police undetected. Using DEC112, a mobile device application that makes it possible to make emergency calls without the attacker noticing, she alerted emergency responders. Shortly afterwards, officers arrived at the residential building and were able to stop the suspect before the entrance.
During a search of the flat, police officers found the severely distressed victim. She reported that the accused had repeatedly hit her in the face and torso with his fist and struck her head with an object. Vienna Emergency Services attended to the injured woman and took her to hospital for further treatment.
The suspected perpetrator was initially taken into custody. During questioning, he admitted to parts of the offence. The prosecution ordered his release but imposed a restraining and contact ban on him, as well as a temporary ban on possessing weapons.
