Phone scammers posing as police officers in Kirchdorf district
A wave of telephone fraud is sweeping through the Kirchdorf district in Upper Austria. Since Thursday, 25 June 2026, eight people have reported calls to the Windischgarsten police station from perpetrators claiming to be police officers.
The fraudsters are using the German number +49 4558 48219. They tell mostly elderly victims that burglaries have occurred in their neighbourhood. They claim to have already arrested one burglar. Two further suspects are allegedly still at large and want to steal the valuables of those being called.
Moreover, the callers ask about carers or tradespeople present in the house. They apparently want to find out whether those affected live alone and how many valuables might be in the home.
The real police are urging: Anyone who receives such a call should hang up immediately. Under no circumstances should information about personal circumstances or possessions be provided. Affected parties should contact the police without delay.
