A routine check by law enforcement in the early afternoon of Tuesday, 9 June 2026, in Tyrol developed into an operation against suspected human trafficking. Officers had stopped a 27-year-old Romanian and his 22-year-old compatriot for a regulatory violation.
During the inspection, a passer-by approached the police officers and disclosed explosive information. The witness expressed suspicion that the stopped man was forcing women into sexual services. He also directed the officers to a nearby establishment where two victims were present.
The investigators immediately made contact with the two 23-year-old Romanian women. Their accounts largely confirmed the allegations. The women stated they had been lured into the scene through feigned romantic relationships. For months, they are said to have been offering sexual services against their will and handing over all proceeds to the 27-year-old.
One of the two victims also reported physical abuse and threats by the suspect. She stated that she lived in great fear of him. Based on these statements, the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office ordered the man's detention on suspicion of pimping and serious coercion.
Later, further allegations against the main suspect accumulated. The judiciary is now also investigating him for document forgery, physical assault and wilful damage to property. The 22-year-old companion also came under the scrutiny of investigators. She is accused of assisting in the crimes and putting one of the women in mortal danger.
The Innsbruck public prosecutor's office arranged for the 27-year-old to be transferred to prison. Investigations are ongoing.
