On Thursday, a 41-year-old local man appeared before the Salzburg Regional Court. The man is already in custody following a previous rape conviction. He now faces additional serious sexual offences charges relating to his former partner.
According to the indictment, the accused allegedly initially pressured his girlfriend to lure intoxicated young women from Hanuschplatz to the state capital to him so that he could rape them and force them into prostitution. When the woman refused, she herself allegedly became a victim.
He is also accused of advertising his partner on the internet for sexual services. He is alleged to have forced her into prostitution and kept the proceeds.
A court-appointed expert described the allegations of two-fold abuse as credible. The psychological consequences for the victim are said to be severe. Whether the woman would ever be able to work again is questionable. What she experienced would affect her for life and is comparable to a chronic illness or serious bodily harm.
Since the defendant is considered a repeat offender and the experts expect the victim to suffer lifelong impairment, he faces a particularly harsh sentence. Up to 20 years in prison is possible. The man denies all allegations. The sentence has not yet been determined.
