A young man from Vienna was sentenced to custodial imprisonment for sexual violence against a 19-year-old woman. The crime occurred shortly after an earlier conviction for a similar offence.

Before the Vienna Regional Court, a 21-year-old man from the Austrian capital was sentenced to four years imprisonment for serious sexual abuse. The crime took place on 21 December in a stairwell near a nightclub in the city centre. The victim, a 19-year-old woman, had met the perpetrator shortly beforehand through a social network and had initially rejected his advances.
The two encountered each other again in the club. The convicted man persuaded the young woman to go outside with him. The crime occurred in a stairwell, with the victim offering resistance according to the defendant's statement and saying "No" several times. Immediately afterwards, the 19-year-old went to a hospital, where evidence was secured. Traces led investigators directly to the man.
Particularly problematic from the court's perspective: about a month before the crime in Vienna, the same defendant had already been sentenced with final effect at the Korneuburg Regional Court for a sexual offence against an 18-year-old. For that crime in Gänserndorf, he received a suspended sentence of six months, which was not now revoked.
Before the panel, the 21-year-old showed little impression. When asked by the judge why he committed the crime, he answered matter-of-factly that it had been a "huge mistake". An associate judge found that he lacked respect for women's self-determination. The defence highlighted that the confession had spared the victim from having to testify in court. The sentence imposed is at the lower end of the possible range.
