Vienna: Fraudster with forged police ID arrested
In Vienna's 18th district, a 48-year-old man was stopped at the last second during a fraud attempt. The suspect had posed as a police officer and intended to take the victim's savings.
Officers from the state criminal police maintained contact with the victim throughout the entire course of events. This allowed them to keep the perpetrators believing their plan was proceeding uninterrupted. When the main suspect stepped up to the victim's door to seize valuables and cash, investigators moved in.
During a search of the man, officers found a completely forged police service ID. Police were able to link a further, identically executed fraud attempt to the arrested man. Vienna's state criminal police are continuing their investigation.
