Detained for vandalism punches police officer during arrest in Damyanovo

A 37-year-old resident of Damyanovo village was detained following an incident on Saturday evening, in which a window on a parked car was damaged and a law enforcement officer was assaulted, according to Paragraf.bg.

Around 20:50 on Saturday, the District Police Directorate in Sevlievo received a report from a 46-year-old man about a broken side window on a Mercedes. A police officer performing security duties at a polling station in the village identified the suspect — the 37-year-old local resident.

During the arrest, the man punched the uniformed officer in the face with his hand. According to Fakti.bg, the incident was a mass brawl between members of two families outside a polling station.

The press centre of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Gabrovo confirmed the opening of two pre-trial proceedings — concerning the damaged vehicle and the assault on the police officer. The ministry explicitly denies any connection to the electoral process, characterising the conflict as a domestic matter.

The detained man was arrested for up to 24 hours under the Interior Ministry Act.
