Former Police Intelligence Chief Arrested in El Alto Linked to Marset Case
The former national director of Police Intelligence, Marcelo Ferrufino, was arrested on Friday in the city of El Alto, according to noticiasfides.com. The detention comes as part of an investigation into the alleged irregular removal of property from the residence where Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset was captured in March.
The departmental prosecutor for Santa Cruz, Jimmy López, explained that the original complaint had been closed, but that new evidence motivated its reopening. "It will be reopened and investigations will commence, and the statement of the detained person will be received, and then they will be brought before a judge," López stated.
The Public Ministry issued an arrest warrant against Ferrufino for five offences: embezzlement, dereliction of duty, theft, extortion and passive bribery. Following his detention, he was taken to the cells of the Special Force to Combat Crime (Felcc) in La Paz, where prosecutors in the case will take his statement.
Marcelo Galván, lawyer for the former official, stated that to date his client has not been formally notified of the facts that gave rise to the investigation. However, he assured that Ferrufino would provide his statement to the authorities.
The investigation points to alleged irregularities in the removal of property from Marset's residence, located in the city of Santa Cruz. Ferrufino served as departmental director of the Special Force to Combat Narcotics (Felcn) in La Paz during 2025 and later joined the intelligence group that participated in the capture of the Uruguayan drug trafficker in May.
The arrest warrant also mentions two other former police chiefs identified as Óscar Fernando M. M. and Erik Salvador C.G., who are under investigation within the same judicial process.
