Former Minister Novillo in bail hearing over French radar scandal
A court in La Paz held a bail hearing on Friday morning against former Defence Minister Edmundo Novillo, according to El Deber. The proceedings seek to determine his legal situation in the so-called radar case.
The Prosecution charged Novillo with contracts harmful to the State, uneconomic conduct and breach of duty, and requested his preventive detention at San Pedro de La Paz prison for six months.
The former minister, arrested on Thursday after presenting himself to testify before the Public Ministry, rejected the charges and described his detention as unjust.
The case revolves around the Sidacta project (Integrated Air Defence and Air Traffic Control System) and the acquisition of 13 French radars, an operation that allegedly caused economic damage to the State of more than Bs 1,478 million.
