Teen escapes kidnapping by jumping from moving car in Engenho de Dentro
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro are investigating a kidnapping that occurred on the night of Friday, 4th, when a 15-year-old girl jumped from a moving car to escape her abductors. The incident took place in Engenho de Dentro, in the north zone of the city, whilst the girl was returning from school, as reported by estadao.com.br.
Security camera footage shows the girl walking on the pavement with a backpack on her back when a white parked vehicle pulls up. The passenger door opens and she is pulled into the car.
In a second section of the recording, the adolescent appears to jump from the vehicle whilst still in motion. After the fall, she quickly gets up, retrieves something from the ground and runs.
The victim's father, in an interview with Bom Dia Rio, on TV Globo, stated that his daughter scraped her knee in the fall and that her backpack remained with the kidnappers inside the vehicle. A report was filed at the 23rd Police Station of Meira.
The detective in charge of the case, Muriel Menezes, highlighted the importance of advising children and adolescents not to approach unfamiliar vehicles.
In a statement, the Civil Police informed that "security camera footage will be analysed and further investigations are underway to determine the facts".
