Suspect with prior homicide conviction arrested after femicide in interior São Paulo
A woman was stabbed to death by her partner in São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, on Wednesday afternoon (21), according to information provided by the Civil Police. The suspect fled after the crime and voluntarily surrendered at the police station in Mirassol, a neighbouring city, on Thursday afternoon (22).
According to www1.folha.uol.com.br, the man had previously been convicted of homicide, according to the SSP (Public Security Department). After surrendering, he was remanded in custody — with no set release date — and transferred back to São José do Rio Preto.
According to police, the victim had returned to the residence after accompanying her older daughter to a medical appointment with her one-year-and-eleven-month-old granddaughter. Also in the property was the couple's younger daughter, an adolescent.
Upon arrival, the mother and her partner allegedly locked themselves in the bedroom and began an argument. The adolescent told her older sister that she heard the man crying and asking the woman not to end the relationship. He then allegedly began to assault her.
The adolescent forced open the door and attempted to prevent the attack, but the suspect took a knife and struck his partner, according to police. The ambulance service was called and attempted to revive the victim, who did not survive and died at the scene.
The victim's older daughter told TV TEM that her stepfather was jealous. The report was unable to identify the suspect's legal counsel.
