On the evening of Thursday (14), security force personnel in Amazonas carried out an arrest during a river patrol in the vicinity of Coari, a municipality located 363 kilometres from Manaus. The detainee, a 35-year-old man, was wanted by court order relating to the offence of trafficking in prohibited substances.
According to reporting by the Amazonas Military Police, the boat that was intercepted had departed from São Paulo de Olivença — a municipality almost a thousand kilometres from the capital — and was heading towards Manaus. During the search, agents discovered that one of the passengers had an outstanding arrest warrant for drug trafficking.
The individual was taken into custody and transported to a Civil Police unit based at Base Arpão 2. The operation is part of Operation Present Security, an Amazonas State Government initiative that works in partnership with the Brazil Against Organised Crime Programme, managed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
Control operations at river bases strengthen efforts against drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the area, increasing the deployment of security personnel on the main waterways exploited by criminal organisations in the Amazonian state.
