Blow against TCP at the border: two arrested and 385 drug packages seized in Mato Grosso

Two men were arrested in the Brazilian municipality of Pontes e Lacerda, state of Mato Grosso, in the context of an operation against organised crime that resulted in the seizure of 385 packages of narcotic substances, two pistols, 150 rounds of ammunition and three motorcycles, according to reporting by El Deber.

The detainees are suspected of having participated in several homicides registered in that municipality. According to preliminary reports, both operated in the Brazil-Bolivia border zone, in the sector of Pontes e Lacerda, an area adjacent to Ascensión de Guarayos, San Bartolo and San Vicente in Bolivian territory.

The operation, called 'Operation Free Territory', was carried out by the Tactical Force of the 12th Regional Command, the Special Operations Battalion Rotam and the Regional Intelligence Agency, with support from the Military Police of Mato Grosso.

During the procedure, officers identified two properties used as alleged safe houses for the criminal organisation Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP), where the group stored drugs, firearms and other items linked to their activities.

In those properties, 338 packages of marijuana, 40 of cocaine hydrochloride, six of cocaine base paste and one of 'Dry' type marijuana were found, totalling 385 packages of narcotic substances. Also seized were two 9 millimetre calibre pistols—one Glock brand and one Browning—along with 150 rounds of ammunition.

The three motorcycles found were allegedly used in the commission of homicides in Pontes e Lacerda, according to police investigations. In the same properties, tools were also found that were allegedly intended to modify the original characteristics of the vehicles to hinder their identification during the commission of criminal acts.

The Military Police of Mato Grosso stated that the operation represents a blow to the logistical and operational structure of the TCP, by dismantling drug storage points, armaments and vehicles linked to violent acts in the border region.
