A large-scale operation conducted in Brazil has led to the discovery of approximately 50 tonnes of cocaine hidden within a timber shipment. The drug was concealed among 260 tonnes of forestry product in the cities of Cáceres, located in the state of Mato Grosso, and Corumbá, in Mato Grosso do Sul.
Brazil's Finance Minister, Dario Durigan, disclosed details of the intervention on Sunday, indicating that it could be the largest cocaine seizure ever recorded on Brazilian territory. Local authorities conducted the procedure with the backing of agencies from Bolivia and the United States, according to El Deber.
The discovery occurred as part of a coordinated effort among several nations to combat drug trafficking in the region. The quantity of substance seized and the method employed to conceal it—within a large-volume timber shipment—demonstrate the scale of drug trafficking networks operating in the border zone.
