Public school teacher in Piedade investigated for sexual misconduct with pupils
An educator employed at a municipal school in Piedade, in the interior of São Paulo, is under criminal investigation for alleged sexual crimes against pupils. The state police force is handling the case, whilst the municipal administration has suspended the professional and opened a disciplinary process.
It all began when a woman went to the police station on 19 June and filed a complaint. She alleged that her two minor daughters had been victims of improper conduct by the man during the school term at Escola Municipal Silvia Camargo Baldy.
According to the incident report, the alleged victims stated that the suspect had approached them inappropriately, touching parts of their bodies and kissing their faces. The news spread and subsequently a second family came to the police to report that another pupil had also suffered similar approaches within the same institution.
The municipal administration issued a public statement in which it states that the person under investigation may have acted offensively towards approximately seven children enrolled at the school. As part of the procedures, the girls will undergo forensic evaluation at the Medical Legal Institute on Wednesday (24).
To provide emotional and social support to the affected families, the department responsible for education in the city has made available a multidisciplinary team comprising psychologists and social workers.
The state public safety department informed that the investigation is the responsibility of the Women's Defence Police Station. Given that minors are involved, the proceedings are conducted under judicial secrecy.
