According to reports from g1.globo.com, two 35-year-old men were fatally shot following a military police stop on Monday evening (31st) in Campinas (SP).
São Paulo's Public Security Office (SSP-SP) reported that the suspects were travelling in a Volkswagen Nivus towing a jet ski. The military police had received information that two armed men were in the vehicle.
The stop took place on Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima Smith de Vasconcelos, in the Jardim Planalto de Viracopos area. According to the police force, the suspects pointed weapons at the officers, who responded with gunfire. Emergency services were called, but the two men succumbed to their injuries.
Forensic personnel attended the scene and seized weapons, ammunition, projectiles and mobile phones found in the vehicle.
In a statement, the SSP-SP reported that the weapons of the officers involved were collected for forensic analysis. "The officers' weapons were collected for forensic examination. The case was recorded by the 2nd Police District of Campinas. All facts will be investigated to clarify the circumstances of the incident," the office stated.
The case was registered at the 2nd Police District of Campinas.
