Cybercriminals attempted nearly one and a half million frauds in Brazil between January and March of this year. The volume represents a jump of more than 36 per cent when compared to the same period the previous year. The average occurrence reaches one attempt every five seconds across the country.

The strategies used by fraudsters include deceptive messages and the creation of fake digital profiles to breach services and move resources illicitly. The financial sector remains the most targeted by criminals.

Payment companies, telecommunications operators and banks appear at the top of the list of most-attacked segments. Estimates indicate that if the protective barriers of the institutions had not functioned, the amount diverted could have reached nearly 2 billion Brazilian reais in these three months.
