Civil police officers arrested on Wednesday (11) a 32-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting multiple women in the eastern zone of São Paulo city. The detainee, named William da Silva Santana, had previously been convicted of rape in 2011.

According to reporting by Record/R7, the victims were approached in the vicinity of Tatuapé and Mooca stations. A seventeen-year-old girl reported that the criminal surprised her whilst brandishing a weapon and, before the rape, forced her to send money via bank transfer.

Internal circuit recordings, released first by the broadcaster, recorded the moment the attacker changed clothes after an assault, apparently seeking to confuse authorities. The permanent drawings on his arms and neck ultimately facilitated recognition by the police officers.

The police force is requesting that any other potential victims come forward at a police station to identify the man. The investigation continues to determine the exact extent of the offences attributed to him.
