Civil police officers arrested a 48-year-old man in Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo, who was carrying a homemade submachine gun. The incident occurred in the Jardim Nova Esperança neighbourhood, when agents conducting a patrol in the area became suspicious of the driver and decided to stop him.
A search of the vehicle revealed a homemade firearm, 9 millimetre calibre, hidden under the seat. The team of police officers then went to the residence of the detainee, where the woman he lives with voluntarily handed over an unregistered pistol and ammunition cartridges to the officers.
The suspect's partner was also taken to the police station but was released after paying bail. The man, however, was transferred to Avaí Prison, also in the interior of São Paulo.
