An individual was killed by gunfire in the car park of a higher education institution on Estrada de Itapecerica, Capão Redondo neighbourhood, in the southern zone of São Paulo city, on the evening of Monday (22).
According to information from the Military Police, the victim was suspected of attempting to rob a person at the location. An off-duty PM officer reportedly observed the crime, reacted and initiated an exchange of gunfire.
The deceased had an accomplice, who managed to escape by riding an orange-coloured motorcycle. Military police officers are conducting patrols in the area in an attempt to apprehend the fugitive.
The location was cordoned off for criminal forensics work.
Via a statement, Unasp (Adventist University Centre of São Paulo) communicated that on the evening of Monday (22), there was a police incident in the vicinity of the campus in the city.
"The institution immediately activated the competent authorities and collaborated in responding to the occurrence. The situation is under control and there are no risks to the academic community. Our activities continue normally," the university declared, according to Folha de S.Paulo.
