21-year-old woman dies after bungee jump without safety cord in Brazil
A 21-year-old woman died in Brazil after being launched from a bungee jump bridge without the safety cord being secured to her body. The incident occurred at a structure known as the "Skeleton Bridge" in the state of São Paulo. The information was disclosed by the portal 24.hu, citing a report from Fantástico.
Three employees at the facility lifted the young woman and threw her into the void whilst the cord remained on the ground at their feet. The victim died at the scene. Her boyfriend went into a state of shock and had to be taken to hospital.
Brazilian police arrested three workers on Sunday. During interrogations, they stated that they did not remember who was responsible for securing the cord, as they performed this task in rotation without any organisation.
The authorities opened an investigation on suspicion of manslaughter. Six people were interviewed, and three of them remain in custody. None of the employees was able to identify who should have checked whether the cord was properly secured to the young woman's feet.
