A 22-year-old man was detained at the scene after murdering his 23-year-old partner with blunt weapon strikes to the neck and thorax in Jarinu, in the Sorocaba region, on Valentine's weekend. The police authority classified the incident as femicide.
According to a police report, the motive was said to be jealousy. João Gabriel Rodrigues Guerra told officers that he discovered messages on his partner's mobile telephone, Maria Helena De Almeida Matozo, which sparked a discussion between the two.
The first argument occurred earlier, but the conflict reignited during the night. The young man stated that the woman pushed him, and then he seized a knife and struck her with it.
When he noticed that Maria Helena was no longer breathing, he himself called the police. The officers who attended to the incident located the object used in the crime and confirmed that the young woman had died. She leaves behind a child approximately one year old.
