Federal Police agents launched the third phase of Operation Palma on Monday (30) aimed at dismantling a criminal gang allegedly operating at Mucuripe Port in Fortaleza. The investigation pointed to the involvement of three companies and 14 employees or contractors of firms providing services at the terminal, allegedly connected to the gang's activities.
In total, 20 judicial orders were executed: three for preventive detention, five for temporary detention and a dozen search and seizure warrants. During the proceedings, authorities seized high-end vehicles, ten pistols and rifles — some of high firepower — cash sums, and froze bank balances exceeding R$ 30 million.
The police operation continues investigations initiated following the discovery in February 2025 of a shipment of 435 kilograms of cocaine that was to be shipped out of the country. According to the force, the evidence gathered reveals an organisation set up for illegal drug trafficking overseas, with indications that the port's infrastructure served as a channel to move illicit merchandise and conceal the origin of proceeds obtained.
The management of Mucuripe Port issued a statement asserting that it collaborates on a "permanent and integrated" basis with the Federal Police and other entities to prevent smuggling activities at the site, applying administrative sanctions against firms involved in unlawful conduct. The statement also highlighted investments in surveillance, such as updating the camera network.
The accused may face charges including aiding and abetting a criminal faction, transnational drug trafficking, concealment of assets, theft, bribery — both offered and received — and falsification of documents. The Federal Police reported that investigations are ongoing to locate additional participants, deepen the assessment of the organisation's assets and bring the guilty to justice.
