An operation by Gaeco resulted in the detention of a former intern at the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office in Campinas on Tuesday (9). According to the investigation, he had entered the institution with the intention of committing crimes.

Now a lawyer, the suspect used the Public Prosecutor's Office database tools to identify drug traffickers with significant financial resources. Using this information, he charged fees in exchange for promises of protection in legal proceedings.

Gaeco established that one of the PCC leaders in the region was being blackmailed and that the former employee was responsible.

A former civil police officer and a supervisor of investigators were also detained. The suspicion is that both acted as informants for the faction within the security forces and the Public Prosecutor's Office. They are being investigated for alleged participation in a plot to kill Amauri Silveira Filho, a Gaeco prosecutor.

Three temporary arrest warrants were executed — two in Campinas and one in Cardoso — as well as ten search warrants in the two municipalities.

The investigation revealed that one of the architects of the plan to execute the prosecutor met with the head of investigators from Dise Campinas seven days before the operation that thwarted the attack. Images of the conversation were seized and are being examined to determine whether confidential data was delivered to the criminal.

Other detainees include a prison officer and a former civil police officer, previously dismissed for involvement in extortive kidnapping.
