A 38-year-old car park attendant was detained on an active charge in the early hours of Sunday (28) in Hortolândia, in the interior of São Paulo, accused of raping and unlawfully imprisoning his 13-year-old daughter. The arrest occurred after the adolescent managed to escape from the residence and seek assistance.
According to the investigation, the girl recorded in audio one of the episodes of sexual violence. Authorities believe the abuse was recurrent and may have occurred over years. The recording that led to the suspect's arrest is believed to have been made during the Brazilian national team's match against Scotland in the World Cup on 24 June.
The victim fled the house and went with her mother, who works as a production assistant, to Hortolândia Police Station, where she filed a formal complaint. The man was located and arrested. During transport to the cell, he resisted detention, which required the use of moderate force by police officers, as recorded in the police report.
The Guardianship Council was contacted due to the adolescent's vulnerable situation, and she was placed under the care of a grandmother. The girl's mother is also being investigated for possible neglect. According to the police report, the daughter had warned the woman about the abuse, but she failed to take action.
The adolescent was taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) in Americana for sexual examination. The inquiry is being conducted under the charges of rape of a vulnerable person, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest.
