A Paraguayan citizen was detained on Wednesday at Foz de Iguazú International Airport, Brazil, when he was about to board a flight bound for Madrid, adndigital.com.py reported.

Agents from the Brazilian Federal Police intercepted him during a routine check prior to boarding and found several packages of cocaine distributed between his footwear, underwear and other clothing. The total weight of the substance seized was 865 grammes.

The identity of the detainee was not disclosed by the authorities. Following the procedure, the man was transferred to the Federal Police station in Foz de Iguazú and placed at the disposal of the Brazilian judiciary.

The case was classified as alleged international drug trafficking, given the international destination of the flight. Brazilian legislation provides for a sentence of up to 15 years' imprisonment for this type of offence.
