A 59-year-old man died on Friday night, 12th, when a Military Police vehicle left the road and ran him over in the Jardim São Savério neighbourhood, southern zone of the São Paulo capital. The accident occurred around 23:00.

According to the Public Security Secretariat, officers were pursuing a motorcycle suspected of involvement in a robbery when the vehicle's front tyre burst. As a result, the driver lost control, collided with two cars and hit people passing through the area.

Security camera footage shows the police vehicle travelling at high speed moments before the collision. One of the cars hit was stationary and was thrown by the impact. The victim did not survive. Another person was injured and received care.

The two police officers in the vehicle were also injured and remain at Hospital das Clínicas. The SSP requested investigation by the Criminalistics Institute and the IML.

The case was registered at the 26th Police District, in Sacomã, under the charges of negligent bodily injury while driving, theft from inside a vehicle and negligent homicide while driving. The Civil Police are investigating, and the Military Police will also open an inquiry to clarify what occurred.
