The Federal Police executed 20 arrest warrants and 26 search and seizure warrants in RJ and ES against a group suspected of frauding weapons registration records for civilian shooters.
Operation Polarity targets fraud scheme in civilian weapons registration in RJ
The Federal Police launched Operation Polarity on Friday (4) against a group suspected of committing fraud in administrative procedures for the acquisition and registration of firearms destined for Collectors, Sport Shooters and Hunters (CACs), as reported by agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br.
A total of 20 arrest warrants and 26 search and seizure warrants were executed in various cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro and in the municipality of Vila Velha (ES), affecting both private individuals and companies. Eleven suspects were arrested in flagrante delicto, and rifles and pistols were seized. The Federal Police teams continue conducting operations to locate the remaining investigated individuals.
The investigation began after the identification of inconsistencies in processes analysed at the Federal Police Delegacy in Niterói, in the Rio metropolitan region. The inquiries indicate that an outsourced contractor linked to the Weapons Nucleus would have approved applications without mandatory documentation, in addition to requests submitted with false documents or documents incompatible with legal requirements.
Investigators also found the repetition of documents among different applicants, the use of falsified proof of residence and the absence of documents essential for the instruction of requests. The investigation also revealed possible links between some of the applications analysed and weapons subsequently seized in police operations.
The investigated individuals may face charges of criminal organisation, insertion of false data into Public Administration information systems, passive corruption, ideological falsification, use of false documents and illegal firearms trafficking, amongst other crimes that may be identified in the course of the investigation.
