Police officer detained on suspicion of feminicide in Embu das Artes
The Civil Police carried out a temporary arrest warrant on Monday afternoon (7) against police officer Vinícius Costa Silva, suspected of committing feminicide against his wife, Larissa Cruz Morata, 29 years old, according to jovempan.com.br.
Larissa was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in the bathroom of the residence where the couple lived, in the Chácaras Bartira neighbourhood, in Embu das Artes, in the São Paulo metropolitan region. The body was found on Sunday morning (6).
Vinícius himself called the Military Police upon waking, claiming to have found his wife dead. In his statement, the officer told agents that the victim had allegedly committed suicide. The weapon used in the shooting — owned by the police officer — was seized at the scene and was under Larissa's body.
The São Paulo State Public Security Office (SSP-SP) stated that the temporary arrest was issued after investigations pointed to evidence of "occurrence of a criminal offence to be investigated, given the dynamics of the facts and preliminary objective elements gathered".
As a member of the Military Police, Vinícius was presented by the Police Internal Affairs and will be sent to Romão Gomes Military Prison (PMRG). "The case is being investigated as a suspicious death by the Embu das Artes Police Station. Enquiries are continuing to clarify all the facts," the SSP-SP stated.
The Scientific Police conducted an examination of the residence. Tests were requested on the victim's and husband's hands, as well as ballistic analysis of the weapon and other evidence collected at the property. Investigations continue to determine the circumstances of the death.
