Brazilian police officers found Emiliana Tamara Nunes Carvalho, 24, with a chain around her neck, limbs bound in shackles and her mouth taped. The young woman stated that her ex-partner held her captive for five days.
Emiliana's family reported her disappearance to the authorities after she left for a medical appointment on 17 August and did not return home. Investigators suspect that ex-partner Ailton Rodrigues de Souza abducted her, allegedly unable to accept the end of the relationship.
Images of the operation show officers entering the location where the victim was being held. Upon entering one of the rooms, they managed to free her.
