A non-commissioned officer of Paraguay's National Police was detained in Brazilian territory after being caught transporting drugs hidden in his vehicle. He has been held in custody in Brazil since March.

An officer of Paraguay's National Police was arrested on Brazilian soil on suspicion of drug trafficking. The detention of warrant officer aide Alex Rodrigo Alfonzo Colmán, assigned to the Directorate of Prevention, Motorised Group, was confirmed by the institution in an official statement.
The detention took place on 23 March, according to information released through international cooperation channels. The officer and an accompanying person were stopped whilst travelling through Brazilian territory. During a vehicle search, Brazilian agents discovered what appears to be cannabis hidden in various compartments of the car.
Images released by the Paraguayan police corporation show that the drugs were concealed in hidden compartments between the headlights, under the seats and even under the car's floor.
At the time of arrest, the police officer was on his day off. Since then, he has remained in custody in the neighbouring country, facing judicial proceedings. His salary has been frozen, as determined by current legislation.
Paraguay's National Police reaffirmed, in a statement, its commitment to transparency and institutional integrity, emphasising that it does not tolerate or conceal conduct that contradicts the principles governing the police function.
