Police officers in the São Paulo capital arrested a 32-year-old man accused of committing two sexual assaults in the city's east region. William da Silva Santana allegedly admitted to the crimes during questioning, according to information from the Public Security Secretariat.
The investigations indicate that the first case occurred on 23 April, when a 25-year-old woman was raped in the Mooca area. The second incident happened on 12 May, near Tatuapé Metro station, where a 17-year-old teenager was approached.
In the attack on the young woman, which occurred around 9:15 p.m., surveillance cameras captured the individual arriving at the location and observing pedestrians. The footage suggests he was searching for someone to approach. Initially, he followed a woman, but ended up abandoning that attempt and crossing the street upon noticing the minor.
The teenager, who was lost, asked for help reaching the terminal. The attacker offered to accompany her and led her to a side street. However, he took her to a dead-end alley located within a construction site.
Upon realising there was no exit to the station, the victim tried to back away, but was blocked by the criminal, who threatened her by saying he had a revolver. After the rape, he escaped taking the young woman's mobile phone.
Investigators managed to track down the accused through the surveillance camera footage. On the date of his capture, 10 June, he suffered a fainting spell and convulsions, requiring medical attention. After being discharged from hospital on Thursday (18), he was transferred to the 26th DP (Sacomã).
The inquiry is being conducted at the 30th Police District (Tatuapé). At the custody hearing, as he did not appear with a private solicitor, he was assisted by the Public Defender's Office, which confirmed participation in the session to assess the legality of the arrest. The arrest was ordered.
