Gang involved in jewellery shop thefts has members arrested in Brasília
Officers from the DEIC in São José do Rio Preto carried out an operation in Brasília on Wednesday (24) that resulted in the detention of members of a criminal organisation focused on robberies at jewellery establishments.
The investigation originated from a break-in that occurred in September of last year, when thieves invaded a shop located inside a shopping centre in Rio Preto through a false ceiling. On that occasion, goods valued at approximately R$ 127,000 went missing.
The detectives managed to trace the perpetrators to the Federal District, where the gang maintained its operational base. From there, the criminals would move to various cities in São Paulo state to carry out the robberies.
Three individuals — aged 21, 23 and 30 — figure as the main targets of the operation. Each one played a distinct role during the criminal activities.
In addition to Rio Preto, cities such as Limeira, Barretos, Araraquara and Bebedouro also registered crimes with the same modus operandi attributed to the group.
During the operation on Wednesday, two arrest warrants and three search warrants were executed in the region of the federal capital. The arrested individuals and the material seized will be taken to São José do Rio Preto.
