The Municipal Health Secretary of Palmas, capital of Tocantins, was detained on the morning of Wednesday (9) in a joint operation by the Civil Police and the State Public Prosecutor's Office. The operation investigates alleged irregularities in contracts for the outsourcing of Emergency Care Units (UPAs), according to information from G1.
The investigation is examining deviations in contracts totalling approximately R$ 139 million. The secretary, whose name has not been released, was taken for questioning. In addition to her, other public servants were also targets of search and seizure warrants.
The operation aims to investigate possible crimes of fraud in public tenders, embezzlement of public funds and active and passive corruption. Investigators are analysing documents related to the hiring of companies for the management of UPAs in the Tocantins capital.
The Palmas Health Department has not commented on the case to date.
