A municipal civil servant from the interior of São Paulo was arrested in flagrante last Saturday (27) accused of assaulting his partner during a domestic dispute. Marcelo Gomes Del Valle, 49, holds the position of deputy secretary of Environment, Works and Urban Services in Cabreúva, a city approximately 80 kilometres from the capital.
The incident was registered by the Civil Police after the 35-year-old woman sought medical attention at the local emergency care unit with bleeding from her nose. She reported that the couple had been drinking alcohol at the accused man's residence in the Bonfim neighbourhood when an argument sparked by jealousy escalated.
According to the victim's account, Del Valle verbally insulted her with epithets of a religious and moral nature. When she attempted to leave the premises, she was blocked by her partner, who allegedly began to assault her physically. The woman stated that she received shoves and punches to the face, being hit on the nose and head.
The victim managed to escape, asked relatives for help and was treated at the health unit. At the police station, she revealed that she had suffered a similar assault approximately one year earlier, but had not reported it to police out of fear of retaliation.
Two police officers who attended the incident reported that the deputy secretary confessed to punching his partner, claiming self-defence. In his version, the woman had initiated the assault by scratching him and he merely pushed back. At the police station, he changed his account and denied the punches, saying his partner had hit her head on a piece of furniture.
Detective Victor Esteves dismissed the accused's version, considering it inconsistent given the injuries presented by the victim, particularly in the nose area.
The civil servant was charged with grievous bodily harm and domestic violence. The municipal administration had not commented on the case by the time of publication. No legal representative of the investigated individual was contacted.
