São Paulo governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) stated on Tuesday that the Civil Police of the state will comply with the decision of Supreme Court minister Flávio Dino, which ordered the transfer to the Federal Police of documents and data relating to businesswoman Karina Ferreira da Gama. The businesswoman's assets were seized during Operation Wi-Fi, launched in June to investigate suspected fraud in a contract worth approximately R$ 108 million annually signed with São Paulo city hall for the installation of internet access points in the city. Opponents of Tarcísio accused the Civil Police of delaying investigations against Karina and her companies due to the electoral calendar.
"Obviously, if there is a judicial decision, the decision will be complied with. The investigations follow a pace established by law. We have professionals heading the investigations. As judicial decisions come about, they will be complied with," said the governor.
Tarcísio classified allegations that the corporation was delaying the investigations for political reasons as "disrespect".
"The Military Police is a professional police force, the Civil Police is a professional police force and we must have confidence in State institutions. When a statement of this nature is made, it shows contempt, disrespect for police institutions," he said.
Dino's order sets a five-day deadline for the submission of raw data, mobile phone extractions and documents collected in the operation. Among the seized material are invoices, contracts, Karina da Gama's mobile phone and her personal computer. The Civil Police also requested the breaking of the businesswoman's tax secrecy and that of companies and institutes under her control.
The sharing was requested by the Federal Police within the scope of an inquiry opened at the Supreme Court to investigate the suspicion that parliamentary amendments may have financed the production of "Dark Horse". The Federal Police intends to analyse computers, mobile phones, accounting documents, invoices, payment vouchers and financial records seized by the Civil Police.
In authorising the transfer, Dino considered the justification presented by the Federal Police to be relevant. The inquiry originated from an investigation by the Comptroller General of the Union, requested by the minister himself, into amendments directed to Instituto Conhecer Brasil and Academia Nacional de Cultura (ANC) by deputies Mário Frias, Marcos Pollon and Bia Kicis. According to the investigation, the entities would be linked to the same management core coordinated by Karina da Gama.
