The Civil Police launched an operation against illicit drug trafficking in the region of Avenida Faria Lima, one of the main financial hubs in the city of São Paulo. During the action, two traffickers were detained near a luxury shopping centre. Even with the arrests, the movement of consumers remains visible on adjacent streets.
According to Record/R7, criminals set up improvised barriers to control vehicle flow and facilitate clandestine negotiations. The group also operated a system similar to a "drive-thru" for the sale of prohibited substances.
On Wednesday (17), whilst the Balanço Geral Manhã team was conducting live coverage in the area, reporter Nathan Goulart suffered threats from an individual armed with a piece of iron.
The initial operation was supported by ROMU and the Metropolitan Civil Guard. Officers raided a condominium to make arrests in flagrante delicto. At the location, portions of hashish, marijuana and cocaine were confiscated.
The investigations continue with the aim of completely dismantling the criminal organisation and locating other members of the group.
