Councillor Amanda Vettorazzo (União Brasil) of São Paulo's capital presented on Thursday (25th) a motion for the removal of her colleague Senival Moura (PT) to the ethics committee of the Municipal Chamber. The motion came after the arrest of the PT politician in a joint operation by the Civil Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Moura was detained on suspicion of being part of a scheme involving a public transport company that, according to investigations, would maintain ties with the PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital), the largest criminal faction in the state of São Paulo.
The author of the removal motion, affiliated with the MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre), stated that the operation "exposes how deeply rooted organised crime is in all spheres of society". She argued that, in addition to criminal investigations underway, the Legislative House itself should launch an internal investigation into the case.
Vettorazzo coordinates the presidential pre-campaign of Renan Santos (Missão) and has adopted the fight against organised crime as her banner. The pre-candidate proposed the so-called "anti-Oruam Law", which aims to prohibit the glorification of violence in cultural manifestations.
The operation that resulted in Moura's arrest investigates alleged connections between political representatives and the PCC through public transport companies.
