Murder of a Vaud landlord: Swiss justice takes over
A 75-year-old man resident in the canton of Vaud was killed in violent circumstances. His remains, severed and covered in white powder, were recovered on 1 November on the banks of the Saône, near the village of Fédry in Haute-Saône.
On Monday, French judicial authorities confirmed that the events had taken place on Swiss territory. The prosecutor of Vesoul, Arnaud Grécourt, transferred the direction of the investigation to Swiss authorities on 27 May.
The person implicated is a French national aged 39 years. She occupied a flat in Sainte-Croix belonging to the victim. Apprehended shortly after the body was discovered, she is currently being held in preventive detention in Switzerland. Vaud prosecutors accuse her of murdering her landlord and setting fire to her flat.
Medical-legal examination established that the deceased bore burn marks on his back, wounds to the skull, hand, cervical vertebrae and thorax, as well as various traumatic injuries. The cause of death is believed to be a haemorrhage resulting from a stab wound located in the thorax. The body is believed to have been severed after death.
