On Tuesday morning, a new incident occurred in Reute in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden involving the local primary school. A minor pupil was pushed by an adult man in a public transport vehicle. The school management notified parents in writing about the incident on the same day.
According to a report in the Appenzeller Zeitung, a spokesman for the Appenzell Ausserrhoden cantonal police confirmed the deployment. A patrol was called to the scene and made contact with a person there. The police spokesman left open whether the man was the same individual who had caused unrest in winter. He explained that – if anything – there was merely an assault. Since this is a criminal offence that can only be prosecuted upon complaint, the police cannot intervene without a report. So far, nobody has filed a criminal complaint.
A tabloid claims that the man in question is the same person who in January is alleged to have intimidated another father, a teacher and several children. At that time, the school was temporarily closed before the holidays after numerous parents reported that their children felt threatened. In the current circular to parents, which that newspaper published, the school states that it is the same person. The mayor subsequently issued a ban on entering the schoolhouse and the surrounding area. Parents are asked to immediately alert emergency services if they spot the man near the educational facility.
Following the events in January, initial verbal and subsequently written agreements were made with the father in question. The municipal president had at that time emphasised that they wanted to ensure regular lessons continued. According to its spokesman, the cantonal police carry out normal patrols in the region. However, an increased presence was not agreed upon.
