Ram-raid burglary in Zurich: 55-year-old Bosnian arrested, accomplice at large
Two perpetrators forced their way into a luxury second-hand shop on Bleicherweg with a battering ram on Wednesday morning. One was overpowered by business staff.
Burglary on Bleicherweg: shop owners overpower armed perpetrator
Shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, the control centre of Zurich City Police reported a burglary at a retail shop at Bleicherweg 20 in District 2. According to Blick, emergency crews arrived within minutes and found several people in the inner courtyard of the building holding down a man.
According to initial findings, two men had previously used a battering ram to break open the entrance door of the luxury second-hand shop. They were surprised by staff from the business. These individuals were able to overpower one of the armed perpetrators and detain him until police arrived. Two of the men involved sustained minor injuries.
The arrested man is a 55-year-old Bosnian, according to police. His accomplice escaped on foot. The vehicle used in the burglary is a grey, older Skoda Octavia.
Zurich City Police describe the fleeing perpetrator as approximately 180 to 190 centimetres tall and of muscular build. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a blue top, green cargo trousers, trekking shoes and a black balaclava. The authorities are currently unable to provide information on the type and value of goods stolen.
Specialists from the Zurich Forensic Institute were brought in for forensic examination. Service dogs were also deployed. Zurich City Police are conducting the ongoing investigation.
