Telephone fraud in Suhr: 21-year-old Ukrainian arrested at the scene
A fake police officer attempted to persuade a senior citizen in Suhr to hand over cash. Thanks to a tip from relatives, police arrested a 21-year-old Ukrainian.

According to tagesanzeiger.ch, the Aargau cantonal police arrested a suspected telephone fraudster in the municipality of Suhr. The suspect, a 21-year-old Ukrainian, was apprehended on Monday while he was still on the telephone. An accomplice managed to flee unidentified.
Relatives of the affected senior citizen alerted police in time. Patrols subsequently proceeded to the man's address. The Suret regional police arrested the 21-year-old on strong suspicion of committing the offence. The senior citizen lost no money.
Prior to this, an alleged police officer had instructed the senior citizen to withdraw a large sum of cash and hand it over. This is typical behaviour in so-called "fake police officer" fraud.
The Lenzburg-Aarau public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation and is examining a possible connection to an earlier incident. Unknown individuals had contacted the senior citizen weeks earlier, according to police. On that occasion, they posed as IT staff, persuaded him to install applications and to open his e-banking.
